چکیده

Abstract Background Interleukin-17 (IL-17) is a cytokine that promotes activation of multiple catabolic pathways resulting in cartilage and tissue damage. It has features making it increasingly attractive as biological marker, especially rheumatoid arthritis (RA) osteoarthritis (OA). However, its expression heterogeneous; not all patients’ exhibit high IL-17 levels, level along the disease course still challenging to predict. Aim work The objectives this study were compare serum levels patients with early knee OA RA patients, determine correlation activity if correlated functional scores both OA. Subjects methods Twenty (32.7 ± 3.7) years included. Diagnosis was based on Luyten et al. 2012 classification (early 2012). This also included 25 aged 32.8 5.1 years, diagnosis according 2010 ACR-EULAR criteria for RA. current control group 20 healthy volunteers 31.9 3.2 years. assessed by using ELISA technique. Results Serum significantly (5.2 pg/ml) higher (5.9 compared (4.9 ( P < 0.001). Conclusions increased suggests pathogenic role disease. positive severity OA-related pain proposes may be potential marker target treatment pain.

Patient Satisfaction Following Total Knee Arthroplasty: Comparison of Short-Term Results in Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis

Background: Due to the obvious differences in the natural course of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA),different functional outcomes might be expected after Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) in these distinct patients. Althoughseveral studies have reported the objective outcome of TKA in RA and OA patients, few studies have compared postoperativepatient-satisfaction levels. Methods: I...

Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis: disease pathogenesis

pathogenesis Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic infl ammatory disease characterized by the activation of synovial tissue lining the joint capsule, which results in the invasion of the cartilage and bone leading to the progressive joint dysfunction [1]. Severe morbidity and structural damage of joints caused by chronic infl ammation often lead to major personal, family, and fi nancial conseq...

Pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis: how early is early?

Studies of cytokine expression in rheumatoid arthritis have provided key insights into the pathogenesis of disease and have offered clues for effective therapy. Patterns of T-cell products in chronic rheumatoid synovitis suggest that T helper type 1 cells contribute to the perpetuation of disease. However, there is no guarantee that the mechanisms of late disease are identical to very early rhe...

Extracellular vesicles in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are both debilitating diseases that cause significant morbidity in the US population. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), including exosomes and microvesicles, are now recognized to play important roles in cell-to-cell communication by transporting various proteins, microRNAs (miRNAs), and mRNAs. EV-derived proteins and miRNAs impact cell viability an...

Interleukin 17 inhibits progenitor cells in rheumatoid arthritis cartilage

Mesenchymal stem cells are known to exert immunomodulatory effects in inflammatory diseases. Immuneregulatory cells lead to progressive joint destruction in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumour necrosis factor α (TNF-α) and interleukins (ILs) are the main players. Here, we studied progenitor cells from RA cartilage (RA-CPCs) that are positive for IL-17 receptors ...
